By virtue of their simple mathematical properties, Stokes flows allow for powerful theoretical and numerical modelling in the contexts where they arise. In this talk I will present two such examples. First, I will show how a combination of theoretical arguments and boundary element numerics allows us to understand the navigation of a generic microswimmer in a porous medium. Second, I will show how by interpreting tissue as a 2D viscous fluid, we can understand the mechanical self-regulation of a quail embryo.
