Guarded probes for optimal downhole sampling

John D. Sherwood
DAMTP, University of Cambridge

Downhole sampling probes are used to extract a sample of pore fluid from the rock surrounding a well bore. I shall present a case study showing how numerical and theoretical modelling of flow through the porous rock, combined with experiment, can be used to design probes that minimize contamination of the fluid sample.
