What do party balloons, wings of dragonflies and laccoliths have in common? Fluid injection is a widely spread strategy for the actuation of compliant environments or structures, be they artificial, living or geological. I will present a few model elasto-fluidic systems and strategies inspired from natural phenomena, in which pressure or viscous forces resulting from inflation drive the evolution of deformable structures. I will discuss the geometrical and physical mechanisms at play in these inflatable systems.
